I have a claim. What should I do?

1. Promptly report the loss to your agent. Let the agent know what happened, when it happened, & give a general description of the damage extent. It’s very important that you provide the agent with your current home telephone number, work telephone numbers, and cellular telephone numbers.
2. If possible, protect the property from further damage or loss.
3. If necessary or possible, make reasonable temporary repairs to protect the property.
4. If the loss is caused by theft, vandalism, or malicious mischief, notify the police or appropriate authorities immediately.
5. If the loss involves a credit card, bank card, or stolen checkbook, notify the credit card company or bank immediately.

What Happens Next?
The agent will complete a loss claim form and forward it to our office. A Hartland Mutual adjuster will then contact you as soon as possible. Each claim is different so there is no “pat” answer for how long it will take to settle a covered claim. The type of claim, the severity of damages and other factors all determine how long it will take to settle your claim. The Hartland Mutual adjuster assigned to your claim will answer any questions you may have and let you know the steps it will take to settle your claim. If you have any questions during the loss adjustment process you can contact the adjuster at the Hartland Mutual office.
